Cobb Symphony Furthers Partnerships with up-coming Noteworthy 5K Run/Walk

Kaiser Permamente and Girls on the Run of Atlanta (GOTR) formally announce partneship

KENNESAW, GA - Progress abounds with the First Annual Noteworthy 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Cobb Symphony Orchestra to benefit all programs under the Cobb Symphony umbrella. Participants will take their mark at 8:30 AM on Saturday, February 20 at the Marietta High School. Registration is still open through the CobbSymphony.org or by calling (770) 429 - 7016 and remains open to the morning of the event. The Cobb Symphony is delighted to announce the formal partnerships of Kaiser Permanente, AT&T, Girls on the Run, Dirt Cheep Music, The WILCOM Group, Delta Air Lines, TRUE OLDIES 1067 and Big Peach Running Company.

These partnerships mark the Cobb Symphony's continued dedication to accessibility and the belief that the thinking of arts organizations act as an extension to their communities as forums of positive change. "Compromise, preparation, support, and responsibility are among the many things that are inherent with participation in an orchestra; and it is through these mutually shared experiences that the members will grow as musicians and citizens – all this in addition to experiencing the intrinsic and intangible qualities of music," notes John Concklin, CSO Creative Director and Associate Conductor. "And it is through this idea that non-profit organizations can be presented to the community as primary and not supplementary to the development of all the people in our community."

Girls on the Run is a prime example of this expanding partnership. Girls on the Run of Atlanta started in 2000 and has since served more than 4,000 girls to date. Girls on the Run (GOTR) offers a life changing, experiential learning program for third through eighth grade girls that combines training for a 5K running race with character building and self-esteem enhancing activities. The program runs for 10 weeks twice a year – fall and spring – and consists of 8-16 girls per group. Participants meet twice a week for 90 minutes after school or on weekends and train in school track facilities, community centers, parks or fields. Participants gain a better understanding of how to make healthy decisions, resolve conflict, maintain a positive attitude, build strong and supportive relationships, and cooperate effectively in a group to prepare for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. There are more than 40 programs throughout seven counties in metro-Atlanta including: Cobb, Coweta, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett and Henry.

The race, which starts at 8:30 AM, will start in the parking lot of Marietta High School. Immediately, runners will make a right turn onto Manning Road. Follow Manning Road all the way around the entrance of Laurel Park. Make one loop on the track in Laurel Park (3/4 mile) and head back out of the park, turn left and follow Manning Road back to Marietta High School.

Pre-registration (prior to 2/01/2010) is $25.00. After 2/01/2010 (including race day) is $30.00. The Cobb Symphony will also Phantom Runners for a donation of $20.00.

The mission of the Cobb Symphony Orchestra is to perform and present live music at the highest possible artistic level and to enrich, educate, engage, challenge and entertain diverse audiences in various settings and through a variety of programs. The Organization brings together over a 1,000 people each week into some facet of it's programming - the economic impact, part of which is bringing patrons to restaurants and stores, is simply astounding. The Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus program - already the largest youth orchestra program in the southeast - is monumental in it's community - educationally, artistically and economically.
